What a basterd.

It's Bruce Beck filling in again for Big Mikey. The guy's as stiff as a board and reads the teleprompter like a two year-old.

I also have a slight prejudice against him because his jack ass son graduated three people in front of me in college. As far as I know, he's still working for the Jersey Nets because his daddy got him the job. Congratulations buddy. Keep up the good work.

...

At least Mike will be back on the radio tomorrow.

The Last Days of Joe & Evan

I thought this day would never come.

Today is the last day of Joe and Evan filling in for Michael. I have to admit that I have warmed up a bit to the fellows. But I really have missed my Mikey fix.

I guess the one upside to Joe and Evan is that they muster up some Mike and the Mad Dog nostalgia. The back and forth banter was always entertaining. Now Mike is working Han Solo on top his soapbox with no second opinion, lest you disagree with him.

Meanwhile, Mad Dog is busy firing his entire station.

Hopefully, Mike will be back at his post on Sunday night's Mike'd Up. Seeing his svelt figure is almost as cathartic as hearing his smooth, silky voice.

A Mad Dog Update

And here's more of Mad Dog waxing poetic about how his show is comparable to a fat stack of mediocrity.

Chris Mad Dog Russo goes nuts

Mikey F is vacationing on da Island while Mad Dog is foamin' at da mouf

The Jerry Manuel Interview

5:05. I was looking forward to this interview because I was expecting the boys to really rip into the saddest man in baseball. But alas they were much too kind. Some choice quotes from the skip:

"They executed, we didn't." --In reference to the Dodgers playing Major League-equivalent baseball instead of Dominican Winter League-equivalent baseball

"It's difficult to expect powa with the replacements." --In reference to every hitter in the Mets' lineup except for Wright.

"We can ill afford to make fundamental mistakes."

"Murphy will be a good hitter some time in his career." Murphy would be lucky to make contact in Wii Sports Baseball.

"Everyone on this club has something that is nagging." Pretty sure he's not talking about wives and girlfriends.

"We have to pitch and catch the ball . . . [A]s long as we pitch and catch we have a shot." Funny. I say the same thing to my 11 and 12 year-old little leaguers.

This last one says it all:
"We're kinda struggling in all areas to be honest wit chu."

I give Manuel credit for staying composed and temperamental throughout this nightmare season. I'd rip my fucking hair out if I had to answer to these knuckleheads every day.

Benigno's Bromance

3:40. Someone calls in to comment about how Joe overuses the youthful term, "bro." The caller claims it sounds very unprofessional to use the slang word on the radio.

If radio wasn't dead already, Joe proceeds to spit on its grave. He says "bro" approximately 400 times without taking a breath. It sounding like my radio was vomiting some really bad pork lo mein it ate at 3:30 AM last night.

After the break, Joe attempts to defend himself. He claims that "bro" is part of his lexicon, lexicon being a surprising word to know for a man making such a claim. Benigno goes on to profess that he never calls women "bro," except for that time that he called wife Terri "bro."

Evan is no saint either. Even he admits that he called his girlfriend "bro" once.

Truly scintillating radio.

Manuel Should Take a Tip From Billy Martin

Around 2:50, Joe and Evan were discussing the sad state of the Mets' lineup. They suggested Manuel should set his daily lineups by picking names out of a hat a la Billy Martin when he managed the Tigers in the early '70s.

Not only would it be hilarious if Manuel employed this strategy, it's actually a good idea considering the way things are going for Los Mets; they've scored FOUR RUNS over their last four games. And you guessed it, all four resulted in big L's.

By the way, I could believe the Martin story because he was always a character.

Mike'd Up is Mike'd Off

Mike will be on vaca until July 20(!). I'm assuming he's in da Hamptons evening his tan so that his makeup-caked face matches his pasty hands. I doubt he'd venture far from his homeland and leave da Island.

Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts will be filling in for the time being. As a result, the posts will be thin until Michael returns.

I'll make an occasional post if Benignog and Baby Evan say anything worth commenting about. So again, the posts will be few and far between.
